Founded in 2020 in Berkeley, California, Michael Yamamoto LLP is a civil litigation boutique law firm focusing on civil rights, business, and employment litigation and counseling. Our attorneys practice in both state and federal courts across California. They are experienced in handling a wide variety of cases, including those brought under the First and Fourteenth Amendments for freedom of speech, religion, and due process; California employment law, including for wrongful termination and discrimination; class actions; and business disputes, among others.

The firm’s founders, Gregory Michael and Dorothy Yamamoto, are guided by a shared vision of providing excellence while modernizing the practice of law, an industry notoriously slow to adopt change. After spending several years working at law firms throughout the Bay Area, their visions have finally taken root at Michael Yamamoto LLP.

Client Focused
We don’t just say “our clients are our top priority”—we mean it. Many law firms are run like sweatshops, with each lawyer churning several dozen cases at a time while having only a limited understanding of each client’s needs or the particular circumstances of their case. We do things differently. We monitor our attorneys’ workloads to ensure that each attorney is able to work closely with each client throughout the entire lifespan of their case.
Quality Over Quantity
Let us fill you in on a not-so-secret secret about the legal industry: the big name firms that you hire and that charge the big bucks (often $850 per hour or more) are often the ones that prioritize quantity over quality. Too many firms say that “clients are our top priority” but end up overstaffing their attorneys with cases and/or billable hour requirements that force attorneys to neglect the unique needs of their clients. Believe us—we’ve witnessed it firsthand. And it has always bothered us. That’s why our firm does things differently. We will only take on cases that our attorneys are able to fully commit to and prioritize through the lifespan of the case.

We strive to incorporate the latest technology into our legal practice. Doing so allows us to increase the efficiency of our attorneys and the quality of their work product, and we pass the savings onto our clients.
